TABLE TIME MESSAGE

February 10, 2022

Below are three statements that were on the big screens last Sunday that we need to remember as we grow and proceed with God’s plan for us in the days ahead.

1.   We need to thoroughly search the Scriptures and listen to the Heart of God.

“These (the Bereans) were more fair-minded

than those in Thessalonica,

in that they received the Word with all readiness,

and searched the Scriptures daily

to find out whether these things are true.”

Acts 17:11 NKJV

If we want to walk in the Spirit, it is imperative that the Scripture always be our final authority.  Knowing the Word of God is far greater than simply quoting verses or listening to messages from Biblical experts.

2.   There are things we know but do not understand because we have not allowed the Spirit Himself to teach us.

“But the Counselor,

the Holy Spirit,

Whom the Father will send in My name,

will teach you all things, and

remind you of everything I have said to you.”

John 14: 26 NIV

The Word of God can only be understood by the Spirit because He brings it to life.  He gives it meaning. He speaks to us on behalf of the Father and the Son.  That is why we are reminded in Scripture, “he who has ears to hear, let him hear what the Spirit says.”

3.   There are things we think we know but have a tainted view because of the flesh.

“So I say, live by the Spirit, and

you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.

For the sinful nature desires

what is contrary to the Spirit, and

the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature.

They are in conflict with each other,

so that you do not do what you want.”

Galatians 5:16-17 NIV

The flesh is selfish, seeking its own way.  It is defensive, protecting itself from the truth.  It is sensitive, being easily offended. Therefore, we often stop short of what the Spirit wants to teach us, do in us, and work through us.  There is only one answer for the flesh, and it lies in Jesus’ own words.

“If any man would come after Me,

let him deny himself,

take up his cross daily, and

follow Me.”

Luke 9:23 NKJV

Simply put, always say no to what you want and yes to Him.

Enjoying the journey,

Pastor Steve
